Building Studio Redux revisits an earlier project from the South Dakota State University building studio sequence, using the original work as a framework for rethinking its architectural, material, and technical decisions. Rather than beginning from a blank slate, the project treats the previous design as an existing condition to be analyzed, questioned, and transformed.

The project returns to the studio’s detail-first methodology, reconsidering the relationship between ground, envelope, roof, structure, and material assembly while preserving the larger conceptual framework of adaptive reuse. Existing drawings and design decisions become a new set of “as-built” conditions from which alternative spatial and construction strategies can emerge.

Through this process of reworking and reinterpretation, the project examines how an architectural proposal can evolve when its original assumptions are treated as material for further design rather than as a finished solution. The result is less a replacement of the earlier project than a second iteration, one that uses revision itself as a method of architectural inquiry.
