The design developed through an examination of John Hejduk’s Wall House projects and their relationship to movement, sequence, and time. These ideas became the basis for organizing the memorial, archive, circulation, and gallery spaces around different temporal conditions. The archive represented the past, circulation occupied the present, and the gallery spaces represented the future.
Through this organization, the project examined how architecture could establish a relationship between memory, movement, and time. The gallery spaces looked back toward the cemetery, allowing the future condition of the project to remain in visual and spatial dialogue with the past. In this way, the proposal connected the program of the Hejduk archive and gallery to the existing memorial significance of the site. All work was completed in partnership with Nathan Krueger.
